Let’s go back in time to 2008 – we’re all happy to leave 2020 for a bit, aren’t we? The Oscar for best picture went to No Country for Old Men. 30 Rock with Tina Fey won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy. And the #1 Billboard song was Flo Rida’s “Low” (and now we have it stuck in your head, don’t we?).
Here at KMC, we had been in our downtown office on Broadway for about a year. KMC Events – our event management company – didn’t even exist yet, although we were in the planning stages as we started to expand our event offerings. As we focused on our marketing communications efforts, we entered the international MarCom Awards competition for the first time – and were honored with a Gold Award for our work on behalf of one of our longstanding clients, Coil Construction.
Fast forward to 2020. KMC continued to grow and expand both our team and our clients. Then, of course, the pandemic hit. Remember when we thought it would all be over if we stayed home for two weeks in March? We stayed home. We continued working for our clients and learning new things, as Wendy wrote about earlier. We paused to reflect on our blessings and on what we needed to change. We actually took the time to enter the MarCom Awards for the first time since 2008, a 12-year gap during which we were working so hard we didn’t have time to stop and enter.

We are happy to announce that one of the positives for KMC in 2020 is that we won the Gold Award in the MarCom competition for our work on the Columbia Public Schools Foundation’s website. The Columbia Public Schools Foundation needed a new website to reflect its branding and to better highlight its grants and programs. KMC worked on a colorful, user-friendly design that showcases the Foundation’s grants and Hall of Leaders.

KMC also received an Honorable Mention in the Branding Refresh/Strategic Communications Marketing category for its work on Socket’s 25th birthday campaign. To celebrate Socket’s 25th birthday, KMC worked on creative design, advertising, and marketing and promotional materials to honor the milestone.
We’re proud to celebrate our work and to celebrate our clients. As we move forward into the next year, we remain grateful for our clients and look forward to celebrating again.
